In front of the accommodation, there is a small rocky inlet with a shallow part and sandy sea bottom, which is suitable for daily use; for snorkeling, diving, fishing, or for refreshment. A 20 minute walk along the rocky shore leads to the beautiful beach of Lagouvardos (2 km) or to the fisherman’s village of Marathopolis (1 km), with shops and restaurants at the pedestrian street, its little port and public transport to Gargaliani.
Uphill, at a distance of 6 km there is Gargaliani with neoclassical neighborhoods and magnificent views over the olive valley and islet Proti, shops and an open market with fresh local goods on Saturdays.
Many hikes are possible towards the north and east mountainous villages. In the north there are more sandy beaches to visit. Prefer to explore the area from the archaeological site of Olympia to Ancient Messene by car.
We are located in southern Greece, in the Peloponnese, at the prefecture of Messinia, about 1 hour drive from the city of Kalamata and around 30 minutes from Kyparissia and Pylos, near the village of Marathopolis.
Coming from Athens, you take the National Highway E94 towards Korinthos. Then, you take the Highway E65 to Tripoli and from there you follow the signs to Kalamata. Take the Exit 16, (Kyparissia/Pyrgos/Patra) and head towards Kyparissia on the E55.
You pass through the town of Kyparissia with direction to Filiatra. You go through Filiatra and you take the local road to Marathopolis. After about 10 km and 1 km before reaching Marathopolis, you turn right at the sign of Esperides. We are at the end of the road (200 m).
By car it takes about 3 hours and by bus it is about 4 hours to the town of Gargaliani and from there to Marathopolis it is about 6 km. For timetables of the regional intercity bus routes check out here.
If you travel between May and October it is possible to take a flight to Kalamata (KLX). From there you follow the signs towards Messene, you go through Kazarma and you turn right at the sign Vlachopoulo. Then you pass Chora, Gargaliani and Marathopolis.
If travelling by boat to the Port of Patras, or landing to Araxos airport (GPA), you can take the E55 to Pyrgos/Olympia. Just before Pyrgos follow the direction to Kyparissia.
